# Inven MCP: Connect Inven to Claude, ChatGPT, and more
## Get started with Inven MCP server with this guide. See it in action in this short video.
### What is Inven MCP?
Inven MCP connects Inven's private market database directly to AI tools like Claude and ChatGPT, using the Model Context Protocol (MCP) standard. Once connected, your AI tool has access to Inven's rich, structured data on 28M+ companies.
You can use that data to do complex analysis, build client deliverables, and run personalized outreach. Beyond individual tasks, Inven MCP lets you build end-to-end AI workflows across systems. Combine Inven data with other data sources, validate insights, and automate sequences from research to outreach.
Use Inven to find and curate your data. Use MCP to analyze, cross-reference, automate, and turn that data into tailored, client-ready outputs.

### How to set up Inven MCP
#### Option 1: Add a custom connection
Inven can be connected to any AI tool that supports MCP servers. Follow these instructions to connect to Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Copilot.
**Note**: If you are using Claude on Team or Enterprise plans, the Owner needs to add the custom connector to your organization before team members can connect.

Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity
1. Go to **Customize \> Connectors** (Claude), **Settings \> Connectors** (Perplexity), or **Settings \> Apps** (ChatGPT)
- For ChatGPT, toggle on **Developer mode** to enable adding custom apps
2. Click **Add custom connector**
3. Name it **Inven** and add our MCP server URL: **https://api.inven.ai/mcp/v1**
4. Click **Add** to finish configuring the connector
5. Click **Connect** and log in with your usual Inven credentials
6. Click **Configure** to grant permissions for actions
#### Option 2: From connector directories (coming soon)
1. Search for Inven from **Claude's connector directory** or **ChatGPT's app directory**
2. Click **Connect** and log in with your Inven account
3. Click **Configure** and grant permissions for all actions
To verify that your AI tool is connected to Inven, you can always ask:
"Check that I'm connected to Inven" or "What Inven lists do you have access to?"

### How credits work when using MCP
Using Inven MCP consumes your Inven credits:

| Any interaction with Inven via your AI tool | 1 **AI credit** per tool call\* |
| Get contact information (emails, phone numbers) | 1 **contact credit** per contact |
| Status check (e.g. *Am I connected to Inven?)* | Free |
| Credit check (e.g. *How many credits do I have left?)* | Free |
**Examples:**
- *"Build a market analysis of X sector"* → variable AI credits, depending on tool calls needed
- Look up emails for 10 executives, 6 found → **6 contact credits**
Need more credits? **Reach out to your Inven representative to explore plans and top-ups.**
AI credits can also be purchased directly in **Inven \> Settings.**
**What are tool calls?**
Tool calls are made whenever your AI tool interacts with Inven via MCP to run a search, retrieve data, pull a list, etc. A single prompt can trigger anywhere from 1 to many tool calls, depending on what it asks for.
For example, *"Do a market analysis of the European warehouse automation sector"* might require running multiple searches and retrieving data on many companies to build its answer. The exact number of tool calls made also depend on the complexity of your prompt and what AI model you're using.
