Master Inven text search for optimized results
Inven's descriptive search is one of our most loved features. Describing things in your own words using natural language and letting our AI understand what you are searching for is often the best way to find relevant companies - and it all starts here!
When used correctly, it significantly reduces the manual work you need to do when building lists of buyers, acquisition targets, or competitors. So, let's roll up our sleeves and dive in!
✅ Describe in your own words what the company should be doing
The descriptive search helps you search in your own words. The more precise you are with your description, the better.
Our AI, using Natural Language Processing, accurately matches your descriptions to the right companies by understanding context and nuances.
Try to narrow down to a specific niche for optimal results.
Using prompts starting with "I want to find..." works best. So for example, "I want to find companies that manufacture recycled paper products"
✅ Do use filters for headcount, headquarter, funding, ownership etc.
The descriptive search is designed to understand what the company does, not its location, size, or financials. To filter based on these criteria, use our comprehensive filters.
❌ Don't write location, headcount or financial requirements in the description
The descriptive search won't understand if you write location, size, or financial requirements in the description. Instead of saying "US-based" in the description, use the "Headquarters" filter.
✅ Do leverage positive and negative keywords for more control
Positive keywords will help pull up companies that match those terms, while negative keywords will exclude companies that include those terms in their descriptions. You can also adjust the weight of each keyword to fine-tune your results.
❌ Don't forget to refine your search and use example companies
Don't settle for the first result. Use our filters, Example Companies and positive and negative keywords. You can even adjust your description if needed to find the perfect company match. Start with a general description and then refine it based on the results.
